Painting Found In An Attic Could Sell For Over $100,00

Everyone loves a good "lost in the attic" story and there is one going up for  sale through Heritage Auctions on November 20. The 1901 painting by  H. A. McArdle depicting the  Texas Revolutions's decisive 1836 Battle of San Jacinto had been missing for nearly a century . It was covered with dust in the attic of a West Virigina home and could sell for $100,000 or more.

"It depicts the 1836 battle of San Jacinto , the decisive battle of the battle of Texas Revolution . It was painted in 1901 by  H.A. McArdle (1836 - 1908), five years after he painted a large mural of that scene that  still hangs in the State Senate chamber  of the Texas Capitol  building ," said Atlee Phillips of Heritage . According to a family story , McAdle was paid by a person who commissioned the smaller painting and so the painting was bought to West Virginia when the family moved there in 1901 . His descendants recently discovered it in the attic of the family's home in Weston , West Virginia . The five-by-seven oil painting was dusty but generally in good  in good condition . McAdle descendants had no idea they had something of so much value in their home . "I vaguely  remember seeing  the painting but never in the light of day in all the years I lived in that house ," said Bland Buell , McAdle's great-granddaughter .

"This is a stunning find of a work by one of the most important painters of scenes and individuals from Texas history," said Sam Ratliffe , Head of the Bywaters Special Collections at Southern Methodist University's Hamon Arts Library.

My take :A lot of  valuable things are being found iin the attics lately....well folks  I am now headed for the attic.
Kicking back  keeping it real and having fun.

The ones at the office says Nee don't talk as dirty as she once did.
The kid with the white hair is too busy figuring out what he's going to do at Gil's office tomorrow.

  14. I enjoy G's notes. He has a good sense of humor. He also has a world of experience in his head which I wish I had. I have been too sheltered.

Now about the housekeeper They are going to hire someone that can be a live in. My uncle Chris has a small house sitting between the two houses and told them they could use it untill they figure out what they are going to do.

  16. Are you going to be present at the big meeting on Nov 8?

  17. I bet the fur and shit is going to fly. G seems to be enjoying it all.

  18. Oh, Nan that is a great idea. The housekeeper needs to live in. I think Nee said they were going to build a room or two for staff. The little house is a good idea too.It would give the family a little more privacy in the evenings.

From talking to you and reading your and Nee's comments I know you have lead a very sheltered life. I think that's one of the reasons Nee love you, she said before this blog started you was like a breath of fresh air.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't know how fresh I am.It's like I told G, I am a very shy geeky hermit who over-analyzes everything.Nee and I are opposites but we have a connection.

I am going to be there I am a shareholder and it will be announced that I will be her secretary.
The shit will fly and Big G. is having fun , he says his son is going to tear them a new ass. Gil don't care what they say about him but his family he is a dangerious bastard.

  22. To answer a previous question, Nana is in fine fighting form. But she has about five hundred doctor's appointments and tests a week. It's okay, that's what I'm here for.
Brian's kidney cancer has not spread according to his latest test. We are ecstatic about that but his prostate cancer has spread so that is the next thing we have to face.

Nee is wild and outspoken and mom tells her to think before she speaks but now mom just shakes her head and says she 's glad she has a good husband. I wish you had known her when we was small.
The house sits out back between Chris and Nee's house 2bdrms 1 and a half bath kitchen and living room it's nice and it's a guest house .

  24. If I know Nee and you, and I think I am starting to, You will both enjoy watching that meeting go down. Just don't look at G or you will all start giggling.

  25. I told Nee the other day we weren't so naughty anymore. And you're right she has cleaned up her language and doesn't talk about sex any more. I hope we are not growing up, that would be boring.I threw the F word in a couple of times the other day just to prove I'm still bad but my heart wasn't in it.

Have Brian decided on his treatments yet ? I know Big G. had radiation treatment and mom says sometime it happen for him but he's at the age where it may not happen to much and mom says a good piece may give the old fool a heart attack and Mae told mom she needed a man and mom told her she better let him take her to a motel.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That old guy is full of pranks. It just means he is enjoying his retirement. That's a good thing. It was way past time for him to quit and relax and have a bit of fun.
You're right Nana also enjoys yanking my chain. But she is one mean mama. You don't cross Nana.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Brian hasn't decided on the treatment yet. Radiation is the best option. There is a forty percent chance that he won't be able tap dance again because the radiation burns some of those sensitive nerves they need to rise to the occaision, but he could be one of the lucky ones who come out of it intact.

I think you guys are growing up and finding your way your posts have changed a lot too and for the better. I told Nee after the other author left you guys begin to find your way and your posts are interesting with some fun thrown in. The name is great because you get a little bit of this and that no set rules.

  30. We tried the habanero pepper treatment for a while and his cancer cell count actually went down, so it does work. But his stomch and digestive tract couldn't take the burning and it became too painful for him to eat them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Honestly Nan. The other author leaving (not mentioning any names) was the best thing that could have happened to us. Things just got better and better after that.

It has been a learning experience for both of us, a whole new genre for me.I have some writing experience but nothing like this and I have never reported on celebrities before. It's fun to give them hell.

  32. Anonymous11:07:00 PM

I know you want the best for him so what if he can't tap dance he can still hold you and enjoy the memories.
Big G. was dicovered he had it after they was here a year or so and about 4 years after the treatment mom said he was crawling up there one morning mom says it don't happen often but it do,

My son just got back from Iraq last month and he don't have to go back I am so glad we have lost so many family members there.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nee explained to me how you shared your baby. It was when she believed she could not conceive. That was wonderful of you and Nee is a good mom.Isn't it strange that when her focus was taken off conceiving and centred on the baby..she got pregnant. I have heard of that happening over and over again in cases of adoption.

  37. Anonymous11:22:00 PM

I made a mistake I have 4 grands 2 boys 2 girls and I had 4 kids 2 boys 2 girls but only one girl now because Nee took her.

  38. I am so happy your son got back safe and sound. Nee has spoken of your family's losses in Iraq. So many vibrant young lives, and for what??

    ReplyDelete
  39. When you can't keep your kids and grands straight, you have to wonder if a little senility is creeping in.

I can't rhyme everyone's names off in my family unless I write them all down. Too many damn J's. Why can't we get out of that rut??

I think all men is that way I know Nee would laugh her ass off at Gil after he was fixed. Nee says he couldn't get it up for a while.
My mom is a nurse and he asked her about it she told him it was normal and he would be fine.

I swear Big G. is a pain in the butt he can't find the phone and he wants to call mom to tell his gun is loaded I found the phone and he says never mind he don't feel like walking up there and went to bed and James wasn't sleep he was howling with laughter he told Big G. he bet he wouldn't call mom and tell her that Big G. asked him was he a fool.
