THE VALUE OF GIVING

SANTA
IS NOT
THE GUY
HE USED
TO BE.
I DON'T
THINK
I LIKE
HIM
NOW ___
WHY DO I HAVE THE FEELING,THIS GUY'S BEEN ON MY BACK FOR WEEKS?
I THOUGHT THE IDEA OF GIFT GIVING WAS TO PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT INTO
THE GIFT,NOT TO MENTION,A LOT OF LOVE.
PEOPLE SEEM TO THINK THAT'S PRETTY LAME,THESE DAYS.
NOW,IT'S ALL ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU CAN IMPRESS SOMEONE
WITH YOUR GIFT,OR HOW MUCH YOU CAN OUTDO ALL THE OTHER GIFT GIVERS.
IF YOUR GIFT IS NOT UP TO STANDARD,YOU CERTAINLY CAN TELL BY THE RECIPIENT'S,WEAK THANKYOU.
ON THE OTHER HAND,IF YOU SCORE,THE THANKYOUS GROW IN ENTHUSIASM AND VOLUME.
AND,DON'T GET ME STARTED ON WHAT THE KIDS HAVE BEEN ASKING ME FOR.
THE TECHNOLOGY OF THE STUFF IS MIND BOGGLING.WHERE DID THEY EVEN LEARN THE NAMES AND TERMS OF EVERYTHING?
THE PRICE OF THE FANCY TECHNOLOGY STUFF IS A CULTURE SHOCK AND A POCKET BOOK SHOCK.I AM NOW BROKE.
DOES IT MEAN I DON'T LOVE THEM IF I CAN'T GET EVERYTHING THEY WANT?

  1. Welcome to reality, Jeannie.
    Self-made gifts? Forget it.
TV-comercials tell you exactly what kids expect nowadays from Santa.
The list my daughter wrote year after year was a "who is who" in the latest toys and gimmicks available at "Toy's R Us".

I see you spent too much on christmas gifts again this year and feeling a little guilty..hmmm I am feeling about the same way, grown ups I don't think about, just the little ones,it is so wonderful to see the grins on their faces,as you know there are so many of us,we start buying in January,we spent to much, always say next year not so much, but the same thing happens all over again.

  3. I am sure you won't spend less the next year. It is just the way it us.
Buying a lot of gifts just makes you feel better. If you can afford it or not.

We stop buying gifts for the grown-ups a long time ago,to many,we just buy for the kids..Yes it really do make me feel good to see them happy, this one day is all some of them has..it is not money that makes you rich, but it helps,it's the love of family and true friends..I have been blessed to have both.

Vix I have had some pain and heartache in my life, cried a lot, curse a heap...but I over came the hurt and moved on,because the hate in me was eating me alive,I know now I am a bigger and better person for it,If I was still in that awful place I wouldn't have been open for the happiness I have now..I guess it is the way you look at life.

I'll do it all again next year.I love them all so much.
Just buying for the kids is a good idea.I don't know if our family could do it though.
The ones in their late teens and early twenties are easy, gift certificates or money so they can pick their own gift.
The older ones are the hardest. The little ones are easier. If it's popular and costly, they'll like it.

THe truth is,I don't really mind.

What I resented was that retailers were working much harder this year to make me buy stuff.I know why, but it still made me mad.I hate being followed around a store by smarmy, pushy, sales people.

  8. Neither do I. However, I ALWAYS make a plan before I go shopping. (I can't be without a plan anywhere anytime.)Most of the time I ignore shop-assistants and pick up the things I am ought to.
My daughter always makes sure I have the list with me. Just in case. Should Christkind pass my way..LOL

Gift certificates for older ones is the only way to go..I had fun before my babies,so you know I am having a ball now...I enjoy ignoring the salespeople,I told one today to get her ass back, just the words I used. She was very rude. She hauled her butt away from me. hahaha

  10. HA !...Jean'ne,how I would love to go shopping with you.
We're just so damn polite up here all the time.
So,when someone loses their temper, they really blow because they've held back for so long.

I know retailers are having a hard time now that consumer spending is down, but chasing me around the aisles just gets on my tits so much,I walk out. But,you'd protect me.

  11. Sales people - I just walk past them, grab what I came for and walk straight to the cashier. No need to exchange words. Short and to the point. LOL.

  12. Well you're right Vix,like I said we're just too polite up here to the point of obsession.I'd love to see a customer and a salesgirl go at each other, just once, hair pulling and cat scratching, just to break that polite tension.

  13. Ignoring them is just as good as a good catfight. However, I have restored to ordering (already wrapped) presents online. I start in the first November week to get them in time.

  14. How can you be sure you're getting what you wanted?

  15. Shops like Amazon, Toy's R us and Douglas (perfumes, cosmetics)
sell almost everything - from books to toys, electronics etc. They tell you how many of the items you want they have in store and how long the delivery will take. Last year I did 80% of my Christmas shopping online which saved me a lot of time and energy.

  16. Thanks for the names Vix.I am definitely going to check those retailers out.Although there's a Toys Are Us just down the road,it still would be easier than wandering endlessly around that store.

  17. You are welcome. It is easier, it is more relaxter and some times things are reduced on the Internet and in the shops not. And you can get things that are not available in shops yet.
Amazon is great with a wide variety of merchandise - not just books. If your purchase is 20 bucks postage/delivery is for free.
